How to Unlock Weapon Special Abilities in Windrose

Windrose offers a diverse arsenal of weapons, with the best ones featuring special abilities. These abilities are unique to each weapon and may include one or two skills to activate. However, these abilities start locked and must be unlocked through a process called ascension.

Step 1: Obtain Rare or Epic-Tier Weapons

Only Rare or Epic-tier weapons can unlock special abilities. Common and Uncommon weapons can be upgraded for better stats, but they will never gain special abilities.

Step 2: Upgrade Your Weaponsmith

Before ascending a weapon, you must first upgrade your Weaponsmith. This requires crafting an Anvil and Bellows.

Crafting the Anvil

  • 10 Wood
  • 1 Anvil (crafted separately using Foothills Iron Ingots)

Crafting the Bellows

  • 20 Mire Metal Ingots
  • 15 Crocodile Hide Pieces
  • 5 Hewn Stones

Once upgraded, the Weaponsmith will display the Ascend tab. Select this tab and choose the weapon with a locked special ability.

Step 3: Ascend the Weapon

To ascend a weapon, you will need Tumbaga Ingots. The number required depends on the weapon’s tier and whether it has one or two special abilities.

Weapons with Dual Special Abilities

Some of the best weapons in Windrose, such as the Plague Halberd and the Rapier of Devastation, feature two special abilities. Ascending these weapons requires additional resources, but the advantages are substantial. This feature is typically reserved for Epic-tier weapons.

When to Ascend Your Weapons

Unlocking special abilities significantly enhances a weapon’s effectiveness, but it demands extra resources. It is recommended to ascend weapons only after acquiring stronger ones and reaching the endgame stage. At this point, these abilities become nearly essential for facing tougher enemies.
