Rapper Ice Spice is proving that even in the face of adversity, her fast food promotional instincts remain sharp. Over the weekend, she took to social media to address a viral incident in which she was slapped by a stranger while eating at a McDonald’s.
The post included the quip, “This wouldn’t happen at Wendy’s.”
It’s important to clarify: this article does not intend to trivialize the incident, which appears to show a woman approaching Ice Spice in public, becoming increasingly agitated, and ultimately striking the rapper. This is a serious matter, and there’s nothing humorous about it in itself.
According to Billboard, Ice Spice intends to press charges. Her attorney stated,
“The unprovoked attack on my client has been reported to the LAPD and we will be pursuing any and all criminal and civil avenues to hold the perpetrators responsible for their actions.”The legal team may also pursue action against McDonald’s, alleging inadequate security measures.
Yet, Ice Spice’s ability to transform the incident into a lighthearted jab at McDonald’s—while subtly endorsing Wendy’s—has added a layer of dark humor to the situation. While we can’t speak to Ice Spice’s personal experiences or confirm Billboard’s report that she is in Los Angeles filming a commercial for Wendy’s, the fast food rivalry is undeniable.
Adding to the intrigue, Ice Spice paired the post with a clip of what appears to be a new song, demonstrating next-level self-promotion. This raises an amusing question: if the video ends up being played in court, does it still count as a musical debut?
