Assassin’s Creed Hexe has faced criticism following abrupt changes and the departure of its two directors, but new leaks suggest a major nostalgia-driven update is on the way. According to a report from Insider Gaming, citing a leaker known as "Rogue", the game’s protagonist Anika is a descendant of the legendary Assassin Ezio Auditore—specifically, his sister Claudia.
Rogue claims that Ezio is "100 percent returning" to the franchise, with multiple scenes reportedly featuring the iconic Assassin. In one sequence, Anika recognizes Ezio’s signature white uniform and hood, exclaiming to him,
"That white hood, it’s like the one in my mother’s drawings."Ezio responds that her mother, his sister Claudia, wanted Anika to "have a life", implying Claudia did not want her to follow in the family’s assassin lineage.
Another leaked dialogue snippet shows Ezio and Anika conversing, with the veteran Assassin referring to himself as an "old man" and reciting the Assassin Creed motto:
"Nulla è reale, tutto è lecito,"meaning "Nothing is true, everything is permitted."
Ezio’s last on-screen appearance was in Assassin’s Creed Revelations, though AC: Embers later revealed he died in Florence at age 65. If the leak is accurate, Hexe’s story must take place before 1524, the year of his death. This narrows the setting to early 16th-century Europe, possibly Spain during the Inquisition or Germany in the Holy Roman Empire.
Additional details from Rogue suggest Anika is being labeled a "demon"—a title Ezio himself once bore in Italy. The leak also hints at a character named "Wolfgang", which could place part of the game in Germany, though major persecution peaks in that region occurred later in the 16th century.
If confirmed, this would mark another attempt by Ubisoft to leverage nostalgia amid financial struggles. The company has seen its value drop over 90% in five years, and recent strategies have focused on remakes, remasters, and tie-ins with beloved characters like Ezio to revive its cultural relevance.
