Jane Fonda’s Committee for the First Amendment has intensified its advocacy efforts this year, and now the Oscar-winning actress is taking the fight to the stage. On Thursday, Fonda revealed plans for a high-profile protest concert titled "Rise Up, Sing Out: A Concert for the First Amendment", set to take place on June 14 in New York City.

The 90-minute event will spotlight the freedoms of speech, religion, press, assembly, and protest, framing the performance as a direct response to what the organization describes as growing threats to civil liberties under the current administration.

Star-Studded Lineup Announced

The concert will feature an all-star roster of performers, including:

  • Bette Midler
  • Patti Smith
  • Rufus Wainwright
  • Joy Reid
  • Sasha Allen
  • Broadway Inspirational Voices

Additional acts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks. The event will also be live-streamed, expanding its reach to audiences nationwide.

Statements from the Organizers

In a statement, Jane Fonda emphasized the urgency of the moment, saying:

"Music has long been a tool to stand up to authoritarianism, and I am honored to spend the evening with these fiercely committed, talented, and brilliant people to celebrate our First Amendment rights. As we continue to watch bad faith leaders take more and more power, it is critical that we gather together, raise our voices collectively, and stand united against this administration."

Rufus Wainwright echoed this sentiment, adding:

"Music has always been the language of resistance. When this administration comes for our freedoms, music is how we remember who we are and what we’re fighting for. ‘Rise Up, Sing Out’ is what this moment demands. So let’s come together, raise our voices, and remind them exactly who this country belongs to."

Supporting the Cause

All proceeds from the concert will benefit the Committee for the First Amendment, furthering its mission to protect and advocate for constitutional rights. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and the concert’s official website, RiseUpSingOut.com.

The event’s website also serves as a hub for organizing or locating watch parties across the country, encouraging collective participation in the movement.
