Acclaimed Japanese director Sho Miyake has arrived in the United States, bringing with him two feature films: Small, Slow But Steady and Two Seasons, Two Strangers. These naturalistic portraits explore the uneasy human desire to relate to others, with seclusion and unease serving as foundational themes in Miyake’s growing filmography.

"I like these characters that have a sense of discomfort that slowly starts to distance them from society."

Miyake shared this insight with The Verge.

I first encountered Small, Slow But Steady at New Directors/New Films, one of New York’s most respected film festivals. The film is an affectionate story centered on Keiko (played by Yukino Kishii), a deaf boxer navigating personal and professional challenges.
