Kenyon Sadiq’s first-round selection by the New York Jets on Thursday night came with an unexpected twist—he nearly mistook the call for a prank, echoing a similar incident involving Shedeur Sanders during the 2025 NFL Draft.

In a video released by the Jets, Sadiq is heard telling head coach Aaron Glenn that he suspected the call was a joke before Glenn confirmed he was the 16th overall pick.

"That's just like my biggest fear, with Shedeur and all that stuff that happened with him," Sadiq said during a Saturday press conference. "It's such a moment full of so many emotions. It'd be kind of not a fun way to get a prank call and stuff like that."

Sadiq added that his relief and excitement grew as he spoke with coaches and management, realizing the call was legitimate. "It was really just when I started talking to each individual coach and management and those things. Then it really kind of hit me, 'This isn't a prank call, this is the real deal.' I was super excited."

The incident involving Sanders occurred when the son of Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich impersonated a team calling to draft him. Sanders was ultimately selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round, and the Falcons were fined for failing to secure his number. The NFL has since tightened protocols for distributing player contact information, though Sadiq’s caution reflected lingering concerns.
