The San Francisco 49ers executed two trades to move out of the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night. During the team’s post-draft press conference, head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the surprising lack of trade discussions involving quarterback Mac Jones.

In January, Shanahan had stated he would be "real surprised" if Jones was not on the 49ers’ roster in September. The team has repeatedly emphasized the need for a significant offer to consider trading Brock Purdy’s backup, a stance that appeared to deter potential suitors. Despite this, Shanahan expressed shock at the absence of trade proposals for Jones.

"Yeah," Shanahan said, via 49ersWebzone.com. "I mean, I'd be real surprised if he's not. It also really surprised me that no one came and offered something, like today."

Shanahan further noted that the 49ers do not anticipate receiving any trade inquiries for Jones on Friday. He added that "his value's probably already passed anyways," suggesting the team is unlikely to pursue a deal for the veteran quarterback.
