The James Bond franchise has a long-standing tradition of collaborating with pop stars for its theme songs, most notably with Paul McCartney’s Live and Let Die. Now, this tradition extends to video game adaptations of the iconic spy. IO Interactive has announced that Lana Del Rey co-wrote and performed the theme for 007 First Light, the developer’s playable origin story of James Bond.
The song, titled "First Light", is co-written and performed by Lana Del Rey and composer David Arnold. Its moody and abstract tone aligns with the opening credits of the game, subtly reflecting its themes. IO Interactive has described the game as focusing on a young, inexperienced, and reckless Bond, before he adopts his trademark cool. The developer is also incorporating stealth mechanics refined in its Hitman series into the upcoming title.
While Lana Del Rey’s personal gaming experience may be limited to her 2011 hit Video Games—which she reportedly wrote about a former boyfriend’s love of World of Warcraft—she has demonstrated her ability to craft songs with Bond in mind. In 2024, she revealed that her song 24 from the album Honeymoon was originally intended for the 2017 film Spectre. However, it was ultimately excluded in favor of Sam Smith’s Writing’s on the Wall.
007 First Light is scheduled for release on May 27, 2026, on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. A version for the Nintendo Switch 2 is also confirmed for this summer.
