AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 4, introduced with hardware-backed improvements last year, was initially restricted to Radeon RX 9000-series GPUs powered by the RDNA4 architecture. This left older Radeon GPUs without access to the enhanced upscaling technology.

To date, AMD has released only a limited number of 90-series cards, including the RX 9070 XT, RX 9070, RX 9060 XT (8GB and 16GB), and an RX 9060 variant exclusive to PC manufacturers. Notably absent from the lineup were integrated GPUs found in AMD-powered laptops or gaming handhelds such as the Steam Deck.

FSR 4 Expansion to Older GPUs

More than a year after FSR 4’s debut, AMD Computing and Graphics SVP Jack Huynh has confirmed that the technology will now be extended to older GPUs. The rollout begins in July and includes support for:

  • RDNA3-based GPUs, such as the Radeon RX 7000 series
  • RDNA 3.5-based GPUs
  • Integrated GPUs, including the Radeon 890M and Radeon 8060S

The announcement marks a significant shift in AMD’s strategy, ensuring broader compatibility for FSR 4 across a wider range of hardware.
