Starting Tuesday, parents will receive more detailed insights into their teens' activity on Instagram. Meta is introducing a new feature for Teen Accounts that reveals the general topics their teens engage with, such as "basketball" or "fashion."
Additionally, Meta will soon notify parents when their teen adds a new interest to their Instagram algorithm. This update is part of Meta's ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and parental oversight for younger users on the platform.
In December 2023, Meta announced its "Your Algorithm" feature, which allows users to select topics they want to see more or less of in their Instagram feed. The company noted in its Tuesday blog post that users with Teen Accounts are already restricted in the types of topics they can add to their algorithm. Content shown to teen users is further limited to ensure age-appropriate material.
This initiative reflects Meta's commitment to fostering a safer online environment for teenagers by providing parents with tools to monitor and guide their teens' digital experiences.
