Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has not yet indicated whether he will continue his career with the team in 2026. As a result, backup quarterbacks Will Howard and Mason Rudolph are currently handling the majority of snaps during the early stages of the offseason program under new head coach Mike McCarthy.

If Rodgers chooses to return for a 22nd professional season, McCarthy stated on Tuesday that he is confident the veteran signal-caller will quickly regain his form.

"I think Aaron is probably more in tune than we would realize," McCarthy said, via Mike DeFabo of TheAthletic.com. "But I have confidence in where he would be the day he would arrive, if that's his decision."

McCarthy also highlighted the benefits of the current offseason structure, particularly for the quarterback position.

"What I've learned through instituting an offseason program, there are benefits of periods where your veterans aren't here. When we're talking about the quarterback position, this is a very beneficial time for Will and Mason right now."

The head coach noted that Howard and Rudolph have split all reps over the past two days, allowing them valuable time with coaches to familiarize themselves with the offensive system. Rodgers, who previously played under McCarthy with the Green Bay Packers, brings familiarity to the setup.

The Steelers may also add another quarterback through the NFL Draft this week, which could influence Rodgers’ decision regarding his future with the team.
