The New York Jets have answered their defensive edge rusher question by selecting David Bailey with the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The decision was finalized on Thursday night in Pittsburgh, following the Raiders' selection of Fernando Mendoza.
Bailey, an edge rusher from Texas Tech, led the nation with 14.5 sacks during the 2025 season. His selection comes after weeks of speculation about whether the Jets would choose Bailey or Arvell Reese to strengthen their defense. The Jets' interest in Bailey gained attention earlier in the pre-draft process when the team canceled a scheduled visit with him. However, multiple interactions over the past few months convinced General Manager Darren Mougey to make Bailey the top choice.
The Jets also hold the No. 16 overall pick in the draft, ensuring they will remain active during Thursday night's selections.
