The New York Jets made a strategic move in the 2024 NFL Draft, selecting Indiana cornerback D'Angelo Ponds with the 50th overall pick in the second round. This selection comes after the Jets traded up to secure wide receiver Omar Cooper with the 30th pick in the first round.

Ponds' journey to the Jets began when he followed head coach Curt Cignetti from James Madison to Indiana. His impact was immediate, including a crucial pick-six in the Hoosiers' playoff victory over Oregon. The Jets, who finished last season with zero interceptions, are banking on Ponds to bolster their secondary.
