Nintendo has officially announced a new Star Fox game for the Switch 2, marking the first new entry in the franchise in over 20 years. The reveal comes shortly after Fox McCloud’s cameo in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which many now believe was a subtle tease for this announcement.
The game, titled simply Star Fox, is described by Nintendo as being "based" on the classic space shooter Star Fox 64. However, the title will feature redesigned characters and upgraded visuals, positioning it as a modern remake rather than a direct sequel. The level design is expected to remain faithful to the original, though the presentation will be thoroughly updated.
Early footage of the game showcases incredibly detailed character models, including a notably realistic version of Slippy Toad. Fans will also be pleased to know that the iconic in-ship banter between the characters will return, preserving the classic Star Fox charm.
While details about gameplay mechanics beyond flying ship sequences remain limited, the announcement has already generated significant excitement among fans of the long-dormant franchise.
