OpenAI is preparing to launch GPT-5.5-Cyber, a new frontier cybersecurity model designed to bolster institutional cyber defenses. According to CEO Sam Altman, the model will not be available to the general public but will instead be rolled out to a select group of trusted "cyber defenders."

The limited release will commence "in the next few days," Altman announced on X (formerly Twitter). He added,

"We will work with the entire ecosystem and the government to figure out trusted access for Cyber."

While the exact recipients of early access remain undisclosed, previous OpenAI initiatives involving "trusted access" have typically included vetted professionals and institutions. Further details about the model's capabilities and deployment strategy are yet to be revealed.
