The New England Patriots have made back-to-back first-round selections of offensive linemen in consecutive drafts, and for the second straight year, questions have followed about where those players will line up. Will Campbell, chosen in the 2025 draft, was initially doubted for his short arms but was started at left tackle as a rookie. After struggles in the postseason, the Patriots addressed the position again in 2025 by selecting Caleb Lomu, a college left tackle.
Following Lomu's selection, Eliot Wolf, the Patriots' executive vice president of player personnel, addressed concerns about his potential role. "Will's the left tackle," Wolf stated, according to a team transcript. "And like I said, Caleb has some versatility. So, we feel like some of the pro day workouts that he did were on the right side and we were comfortable with that. But again, he's very athletic, so I don't think either side will be a problem for him."
The Patriots also have veteran right tackle Morgan Moses returning for the 2026 season. When asked if Lomu could line up at guard, Wolf responded, "I think it's possible." He added, "Again, that's maybe one that we'll see a little bit more when he gets here. But just from a physical athletic standpoint, I don't see a reason that he couldn't."
Regardless of how the Patriots deploy their offensive line, the group will need to show significant improvement after falling short against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LIX.
