Perplexity Introduces Personal Computer AI for Mac
Perplexity has launched Personal Computer, an AI assistant for Mac that builds on the company’s multi-model orchestration capabilities introduced with Perplexity Computer in late February. Similar to Claude Cowork and OpenAI Codex, Personal Computer is a suite of computer-use agents designed to handle complex and continuous workflows across files, apps, connectors, and the web.
Key Features and Use Cases
Perplexity highlights several practical applications for Personal Computer:
- Task Automation: Users can ask the AI to read or execute their to-do lists. For example, opening the Notes app and requesting assistance will prompt the system to reason and assist, working across files and apps like Apple Messages.
- Multi-Agent Collaboration: The software can deploy multiple agents to complete a single request.
- Folder Organization: Inspired by Anthropic’s Claude Cowork, Personal Computer can reorganize messy folders, renaming files and creating a clear, structured hierarchy.
- Voice and Mobile Control: Users can initiate and manage tasks via voice commands or remotely from their phones.
Security and Transparency
Perplexity emphasizes security and user control:
“A system that acts on your behalf needs to be useful and legible. It should feel like a team you manage, not a rogue employee with keys to your most important data.”
The app operates within a secure sandbox, ensuring all actions are auditable and reversible.
Availability and Rollout
Personal Computer for Mac is available starting today, with access initially granted to Max subscribers. Perplexity plans to expand availability to other users, prioritizing those on the waitlist.
