Since Tom Brady became a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders in early 2024, there has been much speculation about his level of involvement—or lack thereof—in the franchise’s daily operations.
This week, General Manager John Spytek addressed these concerns directly in an interview with Up Adams host Kay Adams. Adams asked whether it would be challenging to keep Brady out of the quarterback (QB) room.
Raiders GM: Tom Brady Has Empowered Us to Run Day-to-Day
Spytek responded with confidence:
“I don’t think it’s going to be hard. We both welcome Tom’s insight and his input. But at the same time, I would say Tom has empowered us to run the day-to-day of the Raiders the way that we see fit.”
He emphasized that the franchise has the right vision and process in place to operate effectively:
“And obviously with the right vision and process in place, we’re going to be a very process-driven organization right now. And I think that wouldn’t surprise anybody with the way that Tom has operated throughout his career.”
Spytek also expressed gratitude for the support Brady has given the team’s leadership:
“But I think that Klint and I both feel the support that he’s given us to do the day-to-day stuff the right way and to accentuate the right things, to hold people accountable, especially the quarterback room.”
He acknowledged the critical importance of the QB room in the Raiders’ building:
“There’s no more important room in our building from a players standpoint than the quarterback room—everybody knows that. It’s the hardest position in sports to play. So, there’s going to be a high level of accountability and demand that comes with that.”
However, Spytek reassured fans that both he and head coach Klint Kubiak feel fully supported by Brady to run the franchise effectively on a daily basis:
“I think we both are just very appreciative of the way Tom operates and the insights and the knowledge he shares with us. But also, the way that he allows us to do things the right way day-to-day.”
With newly acquired quarterback Gardner Mendez expected to play a significant role in the Raiders’ upcoming season, much responsibility still lies ahead for Spytek and Kubiak to shape the team’s success.
What Spytek Said About Tom Brady’s Role
In his remarks, Spytek highlighted several key aspects of Brady’s involvement with the Raiders:
- Brady has empowered the team’s leadership to run the franchise day-to-day as they see fit.
- The organization is now process-driven, reflecting Brady’s operational approach throughout his career.
- Both Spytek and Kubiak feel supported by Brady to hold the team accountable, particularly in the QB room.
- Brady shares insights and knowledge but allows the team’s leadership to operate effectively on a daily basis.
Raiders’ QB Room Accountability Under Tom Brady
Spytek underscored the unparalleled significance of the QB room in the Raiders’ organizational structure:
“Everybody knows that. It’s the hardest position in sports to play.”
He indicated that the QB room will face the highest standards of accountability and demand, aligning with Brady’s career-long operational philosophy:
“So, there’s going to be a high level of accountability and demand that comes with that.”
However, Spytek reassured that both he and Kubiak are prepared to meet these expectations with Brady’s full support.
What’s Next for the Raiders Under Spytek and Kubiak
While the Raiders’ future success remains uncertain, Spytek and Kubiak have made it clear that they will bear primary responsibility for the team’s results moving forward.
With Gardner Mendez’s role in the upcoming season yet to be determined, the Raiders’ leadership team is poised to shape the franchise’s trajectory based on their established vision and process.
“There’s a lot to be determined when it comes to Mendoza’s success and the larger success of the Raiders in the coming season and going forward. But it appears Spytek and Kubiak are going to bear much of the responsibility for the team’s results.”
