Geno Smith, the New York Jets’ starting quarterback, may soon have a familiar face in the locker room. Russell Wilson, a 14-year NFL veteran and 10-time Pro Bowler, visited the Jets on Monday night as a potential backup option, according to reports from Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.

Smith, who served as Wilson’s backup for two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, was presented with multiple options for the Jets’ No. 2 quarterback role. Rosenblatt noted that Smith was “excited” about the prospect of Wilson joining the team’s quarterback room.

Wilson and the Jets had preliminary discussions before the NFL Draft, and the free-agent visit was officially scheduled. Since becoming a free agent in March, Wilson has received no other known interest in the league.

At the end of the 2024 season, Wilson stated his intention to continue his NFL career. His most recent stint came with the New York Giants, where he went 0-3 as a starter before being replaced by rookie Jaxson Dart. In 2025, Wilson completed 58% of his passes for 831 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions.

Wilson’s career resume includes a 121-80-1 record, 46,966 passing yards, 353 touchdowns, and 114 interceptions. He also led the Seattle Seahawks to victory in Super Bowl XLVIII.
