Samsung has expanded its SmartThings connectivity platform to include a wide range of IKEA products, enabling seamless integration with the furniture giant’s Matter-over-Thread devices. This update covers smart lights, air quality sensors, remote controls, and smart plugs, allowing users to effortlessly incorporate these gadgets into their daily routines.

The SmartThings platform is designed to enhance home automation, enabling advanced routines and voice control via smart assistants. Samsung states that it has "built enhanced integrations" for IKEA’s devices, with both companies conducting "multiple rounds of validation" to improve connectivity stability. A dedicated user experience within the SmartThings app ensures full compatibility, aiming for a plug-and-play experience with minimal frustration.

However, this integration highlights ongoing challenges with Matter’s plug-and-play promise. IKEA customers have reported significant difficulties connecting the company’s Matter devices to networks, despite Matter’s intended role as a comprehensive smart home integration solution for manufacturers.

Samsung has been actively improving the SmartThings platform, recently integrating Siri voice commands to further enhance user convenience.
