Former Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott, 52, will not coach in 2026 following his dismissal in January after nine seasons with the team. However, he remains a top candidate for coaching positions in the 2027 cycle.
In an interview with the Rich Eisen Show on Wednesday, McDermott expressed his enthusiasm for returning to coaching, stating,
"I love coaching. Love it. I think [I miss] just being a part of something bigger, being a part of a team."
McDermott, who has been involved in team dynamics since childhood, reflected on the personal and professional adjustments of stepping away from the sidelines. He joked about his family’s growing patience with his presence at home, saying,
"So, I think they’re ready to [say], ‘Hey dad, stop leaning in and back off a little bit,’ maybe. But that’s natural."
Beyond coaching, McDermott revealed he is exploring media opportunities for 2026.
"Looking into that. We’ve got some suitors and kind of trying to schedule it all out and see where it goes."
During his tenure with the Bills, McDermott compiled a 98-50 regular-season record and an 8-8 postseason record over nine seasons.
