The Skoda Epiq, the brand’s highly anticipated affordable electric crossover, has been spotted in prototype form ahead of its official debut. The model is set to arrive later this month, offering buyers three distinct powertrains and a starting price of around €26,000 ($30,490).

Skoda has confirmed the all-new Epiq will be introduced on May 19, with final preparations underway. Spy photographers recently captured two prototypes undergoing last-minute testing at the Nürburgring, sparking speculation about potential performance variants.

One prototype featured steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, which are commonly used for regenerative braking in Skoda EVs. While this could hint at a Sportline or RS variant, the brand has not yet confirmed such a model. The steering wheel itself appears sporty, with a dimpled rim adding to the intrigue.

The interior image, though limited in detail, provides the first proper look at the Epiq’s 13-inch infotainment system. It will be paired with a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster, slender air vents, and a wireless smartphone charger. Additional features include ambient lighting, sustainable materials, and a cargo compartment with a capacity of up to 47.5 cubic feet (1,344 liters).

The front fascia and rear bumper remain disguised, making it difficult to confirm whether this is a sportier variant. However, subtle details like front fender vent stickers may offer a clue, though their significance remains uncertain.

Skoda Epiq Powertrains: Three Models, Three Performance Levels

Skoda has already announced three variants of the Epiq: the Epiq 35, Epiq 45, and Epiq 55. Each model is equipped with a different powertrain, catering to a range of driving preferences.

  • Epiq 35: Features a 38.5 kWh battery paired with a front-mounted motor producing 114 hp (85 kW / 116 PS) and 197 lb-ft (267 Nm) of torque. It accelerates from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 11 seconds and offers a range of 196 miles (315 km).
  • Epiq 45: Shares the same 38.5 kWh battery but upgrades to a 133 hp (99 kW / 135 PS) motor. This reduces the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time to 9.8 seconds without compromising range.
  • Epiq 55: The range-topping model comes with a larger 55 kWh battery and a motor producing 208 hp (155 kW / 211 PS) and 214 lb-ft (290 Nm) of torque. It sprints from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 7.4 seconds and delivers a maximum range of 267 miles (430 km).

While the prototypes do not definitively confirm a performance variant, Skoda’s plans for a sportier model in the future cannot be ruled out. Volkswagen has already announced an ID. Polo GTI with 223 hp (166 kW / 226 PS) expected in 2027, suggesting a growing focus on performance-oriented electric vehicles within the group.
