The Pittsburgh Steelers have released quarterback and wide receiver John Rhys Plumlee, the team announced. Plumlee, who is 25 years old, confirmed his departure via social media, writing:
"Thankful for my time in Pittsburgh and the Steelers organization! Can’t wait to see what’s next!"
Plumlee joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2024. During his tenure, he served as the team’s fourth quarterback during training camp while also experimenting in multiple roles, including wide receiver, kick returner, and punt returner. The Steelers ultimately cut him during the preseason.
On October 29, 2025, Plumlee returned to the team by signing with the practice squad. Following the season, he signed a futures contract with the organization. Plumlee has previously spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks.
