The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected University of Miami edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. with the 15th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Bain’s selection comes after a standout collegiate career and addresses a critical need for Tampa Bay’s defense.
Bain, who measured 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine, posted 9.5 sacks for the Hurricanes during the 2024 season. Over his three-year career at Miami, he accumulated 20.5 sacks and 32.5 tackles for loss. His production ranks among the nation’s best edge rushers, making him a top prospect in this year’s draft class.
One of Bain’s most notable attributes is his 30 7/8-inch arm length, a measurement that initially concerned some NFL teams. However, the Buccaneers were undeterred, recognizing his potential as a high-upside selection. Tampa Bay’s pass rush has struggled in recent years, with Yaya Diaby leading the team in sacks in 2024 with just seven. Prior to that, Shaquil Barrett was the last Buccaneer to record double-digit sacks in a season, with 10 in 2021.
Bain’s arrival provides Tampa Bay with a dynamic edge rusher capable of disrupting opposing offenses. His combination of size, athleticism, and production makes him a promising addition to a defense in need of a pass rush upgrade.
