Taye Diggs, a veteran of traditional entertainment, is expanding his creative footprint by launching Microhouse Films, a new vertical storytelling platform set to debut this spring. The announcement was made on Thursday by the company.

Diggs is co-founding the platform alongside Autumn Federici, a Hallmark producer; Shelby Stone, an Emmy Award-winning producer; former NFL player James Black; and actor Troy Brookins.

Microhouse Films will serve as the first verticals hub to enable filmmakers to distribute their content directly. Unlike competitors such as ReelShort and MyDrama, the platform allows creators to produce, distribute, and monetize their work within a single ecosystem, more akin to YouTube than traditional vertical apps.

“When we thought about how to meaningfully impact the vertical space, we immediately focused on the creators and storytellers whose livelihoods depend on where this industry is headed. Microhouse Films is about creating a model that supports them in this next phase and allows them to keep telling stories that move us.”

The platform will operate on a subscription model for both creators and audiences. Notably, there will be no fee to upload or host content. Creators will have the flexibility to choose which episodes to offer for free and which to place behind a token-based paywall. This allows them to control pricing, release strategies, and revenue streams.

Monetization will follow an in-app purchase system, similar to other leading verticals apps.

“The industry is rapidly changing, and we have an opportunity to redefine who benefits in this new ecosystem that puts control directly in the hands of filmmakers. We’re excited to introduce a model for vertical storytelling with Microhouse Films that places a premium on both the quality of the work and the storyteller behind the content.”

Diggs has already made his mark in the microdramas space. Earlier this year, he starred and served as executive producer for his first microdrama, “Off Limits All Mine”, released on CandyJar. Additionally, he developed a microdrama spinoff of his upcoming Lifetime network movie, “Presents: Paradise With You.”

The partnership between Diggs, Brookins, Stone, and Federici began with their collaboration on the microdrama spinoff titled “Tides of Temptation,” starring Swag Boy Q.
