Donald Trump’s vision to reshape parts of Washington, DC, is growing larger—and more expensive—than initially planned. A top Trump fundraiser is now soliciting donations for a nonprofit supporting a proposed massive sculpture garden and the remodeling of a central DC golf course.

Last year, dump trucks began hauling demolition waste and dirt to a massive pile near the 4th hole at DC’s municipal East Potomac Golf Course. This marked the first visible sign of Trump’s plans to redesign the course to his specifications. Reporters later confirmed the debris originated from the remains of the White House’s old East Wing.

According to the Washington Post, fundraiser Meredith O’Rourke is now seeking donations to transform the golf course into a championship-caliber venue for major events. The project also includes Trump’s long-planned “Garden of American Heroes,” a sculpture park to be built on nearby federal land. The federal government is set to formally take over the golf course this Sunday, the Post reports.

Proposed Changes to East Potomac Golf Course

Concept images for the redesigned golf course suggest the elimination of most non-golf activities currently available at East Potomac. This includes the removal of bike paths and open spaces where visitors picnic during summer months.

Garden of American Heroes: 250 Statues and $50M Price Tag

The Garden of American Heroes is a Trump initiative that has been in development since his first term. The project would feature approximately 250 “realistic” statues of prominent Americans, including Elvis Presley, Kobe Bryant, Alfred Hitchcock, and Dr. Seuss, among others, according to the New York Times. The estimated cost for the statues alone exceeds $50 million, though Congress has only approved $40 million for the project.

Trump’s Broader DC Makeover Plans

This project is the latest in a series of efforts by Trump to reshape Washington, DC, in his image. Other initiatives include:

  • Renaming the “Trump-Kennedy Center”.
  • Displaying banners with his portrait on federal government buildings.
  • Resurfacing the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool in “American flag blue.”
  • Adding a giant triumphal arch near the Lincoln Memorial, which would overshadow the memorial itself.

The president has also expressed a fondness for monuments, recently sharing an online image of his face photoshopped onto Mount Rushmore.
