Donald Trump has lost another prominent supporter. Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson publicly disavowed the president on Monday, April 7, 2025, during an interview with his brother, Republican operative and speechwriter Buckley Carlson.
On The Tucker Carlson Show, Carlson told his audience,
"You wrote speeches for him, I campaigned for him. I mean, we’re implicated in this, for sure. It’s not enough to say, ‘Well I changed my mind,’ or like, ‘Oh this is bad, I’m out.’ It’s like in very small ways, but in real ways, you and me and millions of people like us are the reason this is happening right now. So I do think it’s like a moment to wrestle with our own consciences. You know, we’ll be tormented by it for a long time. I will be, and I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people, and it was not intentional."
Carlson added, "That’s all I’ll say."
Once the most influential figure in conservative media, Carlson dominated his primetime slot at Fox. However, his post-2020 election alignment with Trump and controversial rhetoric targeting women and minorities led to his downfall. In 2023, Fox fired Carlson after settling a $787.5 million lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems, which accused the network of spreading baseless election fraud claims.
Trump has recently distanced himself from key MAGA allies, including Alex Jones, Candace Owens, and former Fox host Megyn Kelly, over their criticism of his Iran war policies. Over the weekend, Trump amplified a Truth Social video urging followers to stop questioning his decisions. The video, which featured clips of disavowed supporters like Carlson, was posted twice—first in January 2025 and again over the weekend. Months of public criticism appear to have eroded loyalty among Trump’s media allies.
