YouTube has introduced a new feature that lets users completely remove short-form videos from their feed by setting a zero-minute limit for Shorts. The update aims to help users curb doomscrolling habits, particularly on mobile devices.

The video-sharing platform first launched a Shorts feed limit in October 2023, with the lowest available option being 15 minutes. Once the limit was reached, users received a pop-up reminder to take a break. Earlier in 2024, YouTube integrated this feature with parental controls, allowing guardians to set time limits for younger users. At that time, the company announced that parents would soon have the option to set the timer to zero minutes.

Now, the zero-minute Shorts timer is available not only to parents but to all users. Testing confirms that the option is now visible in adult accounts and can be activated. When selected, users may see a notice stating, “Scrolling is paused but you may still see individual Shorts.” Refreshing the app may be required for Shorts to disappear from the feed.

To block Shorts from appearing in your feed, follow these steps in the YouTube mobile app:

  • Open the Settings page.
  • Navigate to Time management.
  • Scroll down to Daily limits and select Shorts feed limit.

If you prefer not to remove Shorts entirely, other time limit options are available, with a maximum limit of two hours.
