YouTube is rolling out its AI-powered likeness detection program to all users aged 18 and older, enabling anyone to scan for potential deepfakes of themselves on the platform.

The feature works by analyzing a selfie-style upload of a user’s face. YouTube then monitors its platform for videos that may contain lookalikes or deepfakes. If a match is detected, the user receives an alert and can choose to request the removal of the content.

In prior statements, YouTube noted that the volume of removal requests generated by this tool has been "very small."

The company initially tested the feature with content creators before expanding access to government officials, politicians, journalists, and other high-profile figures.
