Eric Trump, son of former U.S. President Donald Trump, announced on Friday that he intends to sue MSNBC and anchor Jen Psaki over a monologue she delivered questioning whether his travel to China with the president constituted a conflict of interest.
During her Wednesday broadcast, Psaki referenced Trump’s participation in the state trip alongside his father, highlighting his connection to ALT5 Sigma, a fintech company where he served as a board observer. At the time, ALT5 Sigma was pursuing a deal with a Chinese computer chip manufacturer. Trump’s involvement with the company stemmed from his role in the World Liberty Financial crypto venture. However, Bloomberg reported last month that Trump’s name and likeness had been removed from the venture.
In response, Trump took to X (formerly Twitter) to deny any board affiliation with ALT5 Sigma, stating,
"I have NEVER been on the board of ALT5 — not now, not ever. Any person with basic access to Google and willing to open a company’s annual report or proxy statements would know this."He also asserted that he had no business interests in China.
Psaki had previously questioned Trump’s presence in China during a segment, saying,
"Guess where Trump’s adult son @EricTrump is right now? Well, he’s with his father in China. Now, Eric Trump does NOT have a role in the U.S. government. In fact, he’s supposed to be sort of fire-walled off from ANY U.S. government activities because he took…"The remarks were shared by the Emoluments Clause account on May 15, 2026.
Trump accompanied the president to China for a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The delegation included prominent tech and business leaders such as Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla and xAI), Tim Cook (Apple CEO), Jensen Huang (Nvidia CEO), and David Solomon (Goldman Sachs CEO). Director Brett Ratner also joined to scout locations for a potential "Rush Hour 4" film.
In a statement on X, Eric Trump explained his reason for joining the trip:
"I joined this trip for one reason: as a loving son who adores my father and wouldn’t miss being by his side for this incredible moment. During the bilateral talks, [wife Lara Trump] and I went to the Great Wall of China. More to come…"
Trump’s full statement included his intention to sue Psaki and MSNBC, reiterating his denial of any board role at ALT5 Sigma and calling her remarks "blatant lies." He wrote:
"I intend to sue @jrpsaki and @MSNOWNews over the below clip. To be clear:• Contrary to her monolog and blatant lies, I have NEVER been on the board of ALT5 — not now, not ever."
MSNBC declined to comment. A spokesperson for the Trump Organization, where Eric Trump serves as executive vice president, did not respond to requests for clarification on the lawsuit plans or its timing.
