Atlanta Falcons defensive end James Pearce Jr. is in negotiations to resolve multiple felony charges stemming from an incident with his ex-girlfriend in February. Pearce, a first-round draft pick acquired by the Falcons last year in exchange for this year's first-round pick to the Rams, could face significant NFL discipline if the case is resolved.

According to Andy Slater of Fox Sports South Florida, Pearce's legal team is working toward a deal that would dismiss all charges in exchange for participation in a program requiring therapy sessions and a six-month probation period.

Pearce was formally charged with:

  • Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (felony)
  • Fleeing and eluding police (felony)
  • Resisting an officer with violence (felony)
  • Stalking (misdemeanor)

His legal representatives have maintained his innocence throughout the process.

The incident allegedly involved Pearce ramming the vehicle driven by Rickea Jackson, a WNBA player. He is also accused of resisting arrest by striking an officer as he fled the scene. Jackson and the arresting officers have reportedly agreed to the proposed resolution.

If the criminal charges are resolved, the NFL will finalize its disciplinary action under the Personal Conduct Policy. The league's standard punishment for domestic violence is a six-game suspension without pay, though aggravating circumstances could extend the suspension.

Pearce, who finished third in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting last season, recorded 10.5 sacks in 2025.
