The Dallas Cowboys made a significant roster move on Thursday night, signing wide receiver George Pickens to a franchise tag. The announcement came shortly after the first round of the NFL draft concluded.

This decision follows the Cowboys' earlier announcement that they would not pursue a long-term contract with Pickens this offseason. By applying the franchise tag, the team secures Pickens' services for the 2026 season, with a guaranteed salary of $27.3 million.

However, the franchise tag also provides the Cowboys with the flexibility to trade Pickens. When asked about the possibility, Executive Vice President Stephen Jones made the team's stance clear.

"We have no intention of moving George," Jones stated via the team's official website. "We're fired up about him signing his [tag], because it means he's ready to come in here and get to work. . . . We have zero intention of moving [him]."

For now, Pickens remains a key part of the Cowboys' plans. Assuming no changes occur regarding his contract or a potential trade, his future will likely be a major topic of discussion during the 2027 offseason. Until then, Pickens is set to play his second season with the team in Dallas.
