Dan Eggen, a longtime Washington Post reporter and editor who played a pivotal role in shaping the newspaper’s politics coverage, died on Tuesday. He was 60 years old.
The Washington Post announced Eggen’s death to its newsroom on Tuesday evening, confirming the news through his former wife, Stephanie Armour.
Eggen’s contributions to journalism were widely recognized. He worked on three Pulitzer Prize-winning projects for the Post and guided its coverage of the White House and other key political beats. Matt Murray, the paper’s executive editor, remembered Eggen as “a sharp editor with a keen story sense.”
“Dan was involved in hiring, editing and mentoring dozens of politics writers across the years,” Murray said. “His news muscle and instincts were integral to our coverage.”
