Ed Annunziata, the creator of Ecco the Dolphin, revealed plans last year to remaster the first two games in the series and develop a brand-new sequel. Now, his studio, A R Atelier, has officially announced Ecco the Dolphin: Complete, a definitive collection that merges those projects into a single package.
The collection will include all versions of Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time, along with a new contemporary Ecco game. While no release date has been set, A R Atelier describes the package as "the complete, definitive Ecco the Dolphin experience, created by the people who made the originals."
Enhanced Features in Ecco the Dolphin: Complete
- Graphical improvements across all included games
- Built-in speedrunning support with leaderboards
- Achievements system for in-game milestones
- Custom course creation from existing levels
A R Atelier has not yet shared gameplay footage or confirmed the platforms for the release. However, the official Ecco the Dolphin website features a countdown clock, hinting at an upcoming announcement.
Background: The Legal Path to Ecco the Dolphin: Complete
Annunziata’s journey to revive the franchise began in 2013, when he sued Sega to regain the rights to the Ecco the Dolphin IP. That same year, his Kickstarter campaign for The Big Blue, a spiritual sequel to Ecco the Dolphin, failed to secure full funding.
The legal dispute with Sega was ultimately settled in 2016, paving the way for the development of Ecco the Dolphin: Complete.
