The Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree gag manga delivers a comedic yet faithful retelling of the game’s story. The eighth volume, in particular, weaves together multiple questlines that players like Aseo might encounter in the second half of the game.

This volume features key characters such as Fia, Nepheli, Hyetta, the Haligtree Secret Medallion, and Roundtable Knight Vyke. While the tone is lighter, it also provides deeper characterization for characters who may have been overlooked in the original game. Vyke, in particular, stands out as a highlight.

The Fia, Deathbed Companion Storyline Continues

The manga continues the Fia, Deathbed Companion storyline, wrapping up another segment of her retelling. It leads to a confrontation where Fia disappears with Sorcerer Rogier, teasing the upcoming Fia’s Champions’ fights. She also requests that Aseo bring the Cursemark of Death.

However, the volume’s structure makes it feel less like a mainline quest and more like an opportunity for players to dive into optional tasks. For example, instead of rushing into the next fight, Nepheli Loux brings up a medallion mentioned by her father, Sir Gideon Ofnir.

In this comedic take, Nepheli uses the medallion as a way to obtain the right half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion from the Village of Albinaurics members who dislike Gideon. This approach cleverly nods to Nepheli’s role in the Omenkiller fight, where she can assist and learn about Gideon’s interference—one of her possible fates in the game.

While some moments are played for laughs, such as the villagers’ antics before, during, and after Aseo defeats the Omenkiller, the scene is ultimately treated with more gravity.

Hyetta’s Silly Encounter and Vyke’s Festering Fight

The Hyetta encounter leans into absurdity. Aseo can’t help but confuse her with Irina, a reference to their resemblance in-game. Edgar the Revenger even shows up to insist that Hyetta is a distinct character. This silliness extends to Aseo’s realization about the Shabriri Grapes and Fingerprint Grape.

The volume’s standout moment is the Festering Fingerprint Vyke fight. The tone shifts to something unexpectedly reassuring, lighthearted, and even uplifting. The manga also hints at Vyke’s role as an Invader, adding depth to his character.
