Fox has acquired two additional regular season NFL games, as announced by CEO Lachlan Murdoch during the company’s third-quarter earnings call for 2026.
The first game will be an international match taking place in Munich during Week 10, while the second will be a Saturday game in Week 15.
No Tension with the NFL, Says Murdoch
Murdoch addressed speculation about potential contract renegotiations, stating:
“I think the important note to take here is that there is no tension with the NFL. We have been partners for 30 years. We’re looking forward to being partners for the next 30 years.”
The Fox CEO also confirmed that the network has had no substantive discussions with the NFL regarding contract extensions or renegotiations. Fox’s current deal with the league runs for four more years.
NFL’s Renegotiation Strategy Raises Questions
Reports indicate the NFL is exploring renegotiation opportunities with its media partners following a change in ownership at Paramount. The league has already engaged in discussions with Paramount, which was acquired by David Ellison’s Skydance last summer. The NFL’s use of a change in ownership clause has allowed it to reopen contract talks.
Industry analysts believe the NFL will next approach Fox and other media partners to discuss potential renegotiations.
Fox’s Financial Performance Amid NFL Shifts
During the earnings call, Fox reported a total revenue decline of 8.7% year-over-year, totaling $3.99 billion. This drop was attributed to the absence of the Super Bowl, which aired on NBCUniversal this year after being on Fox in 2025.
Advertising revenue also fell by 23% due to the Super Bowl’s absence. However, the network offset some of these losses with the addition of an extra NFL Wild Card game and continued growth in its digital platform, Tubi.
