The Green Bay Packers have taken a significant step in securing their receiving corps by signing wide receiver Jayden Reed to a contract extension during the NFL Draft. However, the team’s work may not be finished, as General Manager Brian Gutekunst has made it clear that extending deals for current players remains a priority.

Christian Watson signed a one-year extension with the Packers ahead of the 2025 season, and Gutekunst dismissed any speculation that the Reed deal signaled an intention to move on from Watson.

"Absolutely with Christian," Gutekunst said, via Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com. "Amongst a bunch of other guys that we're going to hope over the next few months to try to maybe do some of that with."

The Packers’ receiver group has undergone notable changes recently. The team traded Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles and lost Romeo Doubs to the New England Patriots as a free agent, reducing the depth of a unit that may have been overcrowded for the 2025 season. Additionally, the Packers did not select a receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft, leaving Reed, Watson, and 2025 first-round pick Matthew Golden as the projected top three receivers heading into the 2026 season.

Should the Packers successfully negotiate extensions with Watson and other receivers, the team could solidify a core trio for a multi-year stretch. This trio—Reed, Watson, and Golden—would form the foundation of Green Bay’s receiving corps as the franchise looks to build on its offensive strategy.
