On Tuesday, a federal judge postponed the sentencing of Purdue Pharma, the maker of OxyContin, to enable victims of the opioid crisis to attend the court hearing in person.

Initially, U.S. District Judge Madeline Cox Arleo planned to deliver the sentence during a virtual hearing on Tuesday. However, after observing protesters outside her courthouse in Newark, New Jersey, she reconsidered. The judge stated that victims should have the opportunity to attend in person and rescheduled the hearing for next Tuesday.
