미국 뉴저지주 뉴어크 연방지방법원 판사 매들린 콕스 아를레오(Madeline Cox Arleo)는 24일 ОхуContin 제조사 퍼듀파마(Purdue Pharma)의 형량 선고를 연기했다고 밝혔다.
원래는 화상회의로 진행될 예정이었지만, 법정 밖에서 오피오이드 위기 피해자들이 시위를 벌이는 모습을 본 판사가 피해자들의 현장 참여를 보장하기로 결정했다. 이에 따라 선고 일정이 다음 주 화요일로 연기되었다.
퍼듀파마는 ОхуContin을 제조·판매하며 오피오이드 위기를 악화시킨 혐의로 기소되었다. 이번 선고 연기 결정은 피해자들의 목소리에 대한 법원의 배려로 해석된다.
