Kash Patel’s Controversial Snorkeling Excursion in Hawaii

Kash Patel, the FBI Director, has once again drawn scrutiny for allegedly using official resources for personal activities. According to reports, Patel participated in a VIP snorkeling trip near the USS Arizona during a visit to Hawaii last summer. The FBI had publicly stated that Patel’s trip was strictly for official purposes, including touring the bureau’s Honolulu branch and meeting with local law enforcement.

However, emails obtained by the Associated Press reveal that Patel’s itinerary included a snorkeling excursion coordinated by the military. The dive took place near the USS Arizona, a sunken battleship from the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor that serves as a military cemetery, with over 900 sailors and Marines killed in the assault.

Restricted Access and Rare Exceptions

Snorkeling and diving around the USS Arizona are typically prohibited, with only rare exceptions. The site is considered a military cemetery, and most dives are conducted by Marine archaeologists or National Park Service crews to assess the wreck’s condition or inter the remains of survivors who wish to be buried near their comrades.

Since at least the Obama administration, only a few dignitaries have been permitted to swim at the site. Notably, none of these dignitaries were FBI directors, despite multiple visits to Pearl Harbor by bureau chiefs.

Questions About Official vs. Personal Use of Resources

The revelation raises questions about whether Patel used his position and access to a private FBI jet to engage in personal activities at taxpayer expense. This is not the first time Patel has faced scrutiny for allegedly misusing FBI resources:

  • Flying to see his girlfriend perform at a wrestling event and having agents protect her.
  • Purchasing a fleet of BMWs for personal use.
  • Traveling to Italy to attend parties during the Olympics.
  • Passing out behind a locked door at work, requiring "breaching equipment" to gain access.
  • Owning a personalized bourbon bottle, which reportedly went missing, leading to an outburst.

Patel’s Alleged Misconduct and Pro-Trump Stance

Patel has been accused of using his role to advance President Trump’s agenda, including targeting the president’s political opponents and removing experts on Iran who did not align with the administration’s views. Despite a growing list of controversies, Patel has retained his position, with critics suggesting his loyalty to Trump outweighs concerns about his conduct.

"Patel appears to think that he gets to party and carry out President Trump’s bidding, such as going after the president’s political enemies and purging agents that don’t toe the administration’s line, even when they are experts on Iran."

The Associated Press’ findings add to the mounting concerns about Patel’s use of official resources for personal gain and the ethical implications of his actions as FBI Director.
