Kim Raver is saying goodbye to Grey’s Anatomy—again. The actress, who has played Dr. Teddy Altman for 11 seasons, exits the long-running medical drama in the Season 22 finale, titled “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

Raver’s departure follows her previous exit in Season 8, making this her second farewell to the show. Teddy’s exit is tied to her reunion with longtime love interest Owen Hunt, played by Kevin McKidd, in a storyline that revisits their tumultuous romantic history.

The Season 22 finale centers on a massive bridge collapse near Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Teddy leads the hospital’s emergency response while grappling with the possibility that Owen may have been injured in the disaster. The episode weaves in flashbacks to Teddy’s past relationships, including her love triangle with Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) in the show’s early seasons.

In the end, Teddy and Owen recommit to their relationship and decide to leave Seattle together. Teddy secures a new job opportunity in Paris, prompting the couple to start a new chapter abroad.

Kim Raver Reflects on Teddy’s Emotional Exit

Raver shared her thoughts on Teddy’s final storyline and the significance of her character’s journey:

“It’s quintessential Teddy and Owen. In the height of the storm they are actually this incredible team. Even while they fret about the safety of one another, when they come together they create just a little bit of magic.”

She also expressed deep gratitude for her time on the show, crediting creator Shonda Rhimes and the entire Grey’s Anatomy team for crafting a multilayered character and a supportive creative environment.

“To be a part of such an incredible company and history … It’s hard to put into words, but Shonda Rhimes creates such an incredible company. It’s almost like an old school theater company where she supports and writes for and creates the sort of troupe of actors that are lucky enough to have these long-running experiences together. So it’s been an incredible run, and I’m super grateful for having had such a multilayered and deep character to play for so long.”

Raver highlighted Teddy’s pivotal final day at Grey Sloan, which included leading the hospital’s response to the bridge collapse, assisting in a life-saving surgery for patients Owen rescued, and reuniting with Owen before their move to Paris.

What’s Next for Kim Raver?

Beyond acting, Raver has ambitions in directing. She expressed excitement about future projects, both in front of and behind the camera, while reflecting on the impact of playing Teddy Altman for over a decade.

“I just absolutely loved getting to play Teddy Altman,” she said. “Teddy has one hell of a last day at Grey Sloan.”
