The Stratum v2 Working Group has announced the addition of seven major players in the Bitcoin mining ecosystem: ANTPOOL, Block Inc, F2Pool, Foundry, Spiderpool, MARA Foundation, and DMND. These organizations will collaborate to drive the adoption of the Stratum v2 protocol, a significant upgrade to the original Stratum mining protocol.
The working group was established in 2022 by Braiins and Spiral to develop and maintain Stratum v2 as an open, vendor-neutral specification. The protocol introduces substantial improvements, including enhanced efficiency, privacy, security, and functionality, all of which contribute to greater decentralization in Bitcoin mining.
The inclusion of these new members marks a critical milestone for the working group, reinforcing its mission to ensure real-world compatibility and scalability across large-scale mining operations. It also reflects a growing industry consensus that Stratum v2 is the future standard for Bitcoin mining protocols.
“We’re proud to support the broader adoption of Stratum V2. Aligning around an open, interoperable standard enables the industry to collaborate more effectively and drive improvements in efficiency, security and decentralization.”
Stratum v2 introduces several key features designed to optimize mining operations:
- Efficient fleet management for large-scale mining operations
- End-to-end encryption for enhanced security
- Miner-constructed block templates, allowing individual miners to contribute to block creation with supporting pools
“Decentralization is core to our mission. Stratum V2 supports this by enabling miner-constructed templates, while also improving efficiency, especially for miners in bandwidth-constrained environments.”
About the Stratum V2 Working Group
The Stratum V2 Working Group is an open collaboration initiative focused on advancing the development, adoption, and interoperability of the Stratum V2 mining protocol. It maintains a public specification and serves as a coordination platform between developers and industry stakeholders.
