Malik Washington is entering his third NFL season, but he has already established himself as the senior leader of the Miami Dolphins' wide receiver room. Unlike his teammates, Washington is the only returning receiver who played a significant role for the Dolphins in 2025, as Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and Cedrick Wilson have all departed this offseason.

To bolster the position, the Dolphins signed Tutu Atwell and Jalen Tolbert, though external assessments of the group remain skeptical. On Tuesday, Washington addressed the outside perception, emphasizing the collective determination within the room to showcase their abilities in 2026.

"Each guy in that room knows there's a little bit of a chip on their shoulder," Washington said, via Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. "We all want to be the guy. We all wanted to bring in the targets and, you know, play well on Sundays."

The Dolphins may add more receivers before the NFL Draft concludes on Saturday, but major shifts in expectations for the passing game appear unlikely. Washington, however, remains unfazed by the skepticism, focusing instead on the opportunity to elevate his profile in the upcoming season.
