Meta is rolling out a long-awaited redesign for the web version of Threads, introducing direct messaging and streamlining navigation between multiple feeds. The update, announced by Connor Hayes, head of Threads, aims to make previously buried features more accessible.

Key Features of the Threads Web Redesign

The new layout introduces several shortcuts in the left rail, including:

  • Saved posts – Quick access to bookmarked content.
  • Insights – Previously hidden behind profile navigation or pinned columns.
  • Activity – Centralized updates and notifications.
  • Feed switching – Easier toggling between different feeds.

These features were technically available on the web before but were difficult to locate. The most significant addition is the Threads inbox, which was introduced to the mobile app in June 2024 but has been unavailable on the web until now.

Timeline and Future Plans

Meta has not confirmed a full rollout date, but Hayes stated that testing has already begun. He emphasized that the company will "be investing more here going forward." The last major update to the Threads website occurred in April 2024, adding basic functionality. Since then, Meta has prioritized the mobile app, leaving the web version with limited features.

Notably, some newer features, such as disappearing "ghost posts", can be viewed on the web but can only be created in the app.

Mobile Updates Parallel Web Redesign

The web redesign follows Hayes’ announcement of changes to reply formatting in the Threads mobile app. Under the update, replies will be slightly indented to improve conversation readability. This change is currently rolling out on iOS and is in testing on Android.
