MG 07 Flagship Unveiled: Porsche Taycan Styling at Toyota Corolla Pricing

SAIC MG has officially revealed the exterior design of its upcoming MG 07 flagship, a new-energy coupe positioned to deliver premium styling at an accessible price point.

Design Inspired by Porsche Taycan, Priced Like a Corolla

The MG 07’s design draws clear inspiration from the Porsche Taycan, yet is priced competitively at less than ¥200,000 ($29,410) in China. This undercuts the Taycan’s starting price of ¥918,000 ($134,985) by a significant margin, positioning the MG as a more affordable alternative in the luxury coupe segment.

Despite the visual similarities, the MG 07’s design is not a perfect replica. It features a distinct interpretation with C-shaped lighting units, a bulging hood, a wide lower intake with an active shutter grille, and a prominent sensor. The side profile includes a rakish windscreen flowing into a long curved roof, which houses a lidar sensor mounted above the windscreen.

Additional design cues include Taycan-style front fender vents, door handles, and a similar rear end. However, the MG 07’s rear design has been noted as less refined.

Powertrain Options: Electric and Plug-in Hybrid

MG has confirmed the 07 will be built on SAIC’s next-generation New Energy Vehicle (NEV) platform, offering both electric and plug-in hybrid powertrains. This flexibility allows buyers to choose between zero-emission driving and extended range options.

Autonomous Driving: Momenta R7 System for Higher-End Variants

Higher-end variants of the MG 07, priced around ¥300,000 ($44,112), will be equipped with the Momenta R7 autonomous driving system. This system is designed to provide advanced autonomous capabilities, including:

• Urban Navigate on Autopilot for hands-free driving in urban environments
• A seamless parking-to-parking driving experience for enhanced convenience
• Physical scene understanding and predictive reasoning, enabling proactive defensive maneuvers similar to an experienced driver

MG emphasizes that the system does not merely mimic human driving but incorporates advanced AI to enhance safety and responsiveness.

When operating autonomously, the MG 07 will feature distinctive turquoise lighting to indicate its autonomous driving mode.
