Twelve years to the month after Johnny Manziel was selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, the former Cleveland Browns quarterback will step into a boxing ring for the first time.
According to Andreas Hale of ESPN, Manziel is scheduled to fight social-media influencer Bob Menery on May 23 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
This fight represents another unexpected turn in Manziel’s post-football career, despite his potential to still be playing in the NFL. After being drafted in 2014, Manziel’s NFL tenure lasted only two seasons with the Browns before his departure.
Following his NFL exit, Manziel briefly played in the Canadian Football League (CFL), appearing for two teams. He later joined the now-defunct Alliance of American Football (AAF) in 2019. From 2021 to 2022, he competed in the Fan Controlled Football League, playing for the Zappers.
In 2024, Manziel launched the Glory Daze podcast, further diversifying his career beyond football. Now, at age 33, he will face 38-year-old Menery in a high-profile boxing match aimed at generating attention and financial opportunities.
