Microsoft has quietly put its Xbox mobile gaming store project on hold, despite earlier promises of a July 2024 launch. The initiative, first revealed in 2022, was designed to challenge the dominance of Apple and Google in the mobile gaming market.

In 2022, former Xbox president Sarah Bond announced at a Bloomberg event that the store would launch in July 2024. However, recent observations suggest the project has been shelved. Developer redphx noted that the store URL Microsoft had been testing for years is no longer functional. The last update to the website occurred nearly a year ago, indicating a significant delay or cancellation.

The proposed Xbox mobile store was intended to provide a direct alternative to Google Play and the Apple App Store, offering Xbox games and services on mobile devices. Microsoft has not yet issued an official statement regarding the status of the project.
