Netflix’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the beloved animated series Scooby-Doo has officially begun production. Titled Scooby-Doo: Origins, the new series offers a fresh take on the classic mystery-solving gang, now reimagined in live-action.
The show is currently filming in Atlanta, marking Netflix’s latest effort to bring an animated franchise to life with real actors. The cast has been revealed, featuring rising stars in the iconic roles:
- Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake
- Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers
- Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley
- Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones
A first look at the cast in character was shared by Netflix, showcasing the young actors embodying the beloved gang:

“During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
The series is developed by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who serve as showrunners, writers, and executive producers under the banner of Midnight Radio. Additional executive producers include Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman via Berlanti Productions and its deal with Warner Bros. Television, as well as André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson from Midnight Radio. Toby Haynes is also an executive producer and directs the premiere episode.
The Scooby-Doo franchise originated in 1969 with the animated series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears. Over the decades, the characters have been reimagined in various forms, including the 2002 live-action film duology starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini, directed by Raja Gosnell and written by James Gunn.
