The New York Jets have finalized a contract with tight end Kenyon Sadiq, the 16th overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. The announcement comes just two weeks after the Jets made three first-round picks during the draft.

The Jets also selected edge rusher David Bailey with the No. 2 overall pick and traded back into the first round to select receiver Omar Cooper Jr. at No. 30.

General Manager Praises Sadiq’s Versatility

General Manager Darren Mougey spoke about the team’s decision to sign Sadiq, emphasizing his value as an offensive weapon. According to the team’s official website, Mougey stated:

"Sadiq was a player that, obviously we studied, spent a lot of time on and valued as an offensive weapon and when he was there it was really a no-brainer for us, just to add another weapon to the offense. And [offensive coordinator Frank Reich's] got a great vision for the player and how we can use him in multiple ways and get in 12 personnel, and do different things and just use him as another weapon and make it tough on the defense."

Rookie Contracts Finalized Before Minicamp

The 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) has streamlined the process of signing first-round draft picks. Previously, negotiations did not begin until after July 4. Now, most players finalize their contracts before Memorial Day.

According to the updated CBA rules, all first-round picks are expected to have their contracts completed before attending rookie minicamp. The Jets’ move aligns with this timeline, ensuring Sadiq and other rookies can officially begin their tenure with the team.
