The New England Patriots executed their second trade-up maneuver in two rounds by selecting defensive end Gabe Jacas at No. 55 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Patriots had previously moved up in the first round to select offensive lineman Caleb Lomu.

To secure Jacas, the Patriots engaged in a trade with the Los Angeles Chargers. In exchange for their original No. 55 pick, the Chargers received the Patriots’ 63rd, 131st, and 202nd-round selections.

Jacas, a four-year standout at the University of Illinois, concluded his collegiate career with 11 sacks during his final season. He led the Fighting Illini in sacks in 2024 and recorded the team’s highest total in tackles for loss across both the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

Following the trade, the Patriots now hold six additional picks remaining in the draft, spread across the final five rounds.
